Stop saying that
Stop saying DEI
First of all, most of those that have a problem with DEI, have no idea what it stands for. It is diversity equity and inclusion. If someone were to outright say they have a problem with diversity, equity, or inclusion, they'd, first of all sound stupid, and secondly, unless the person question, is a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant male of a certain age, they'd realize, that they most likely fit at least into the inclusion column, and maybe they'd shut the fuck up.
Summarization of MAGA’s assault on DEI: ‘Don’t Expect Intelligence’
Stop saying Dems
Sure, “Dems” It's shorthand for Democrats, but it makes the party sound childish and cartoonish at worst, and more to the point, like a reference to a sports team. The Chicago Cubs famously went 108 years between world series wins, and in that time had seventy-seven losing seasons, and yet George Will, Dick Durbin, Harry Caray, Bill Murray, John Cusack, Vince Vaughn, and Jeremy Piven remained loyal fans, year after losing year. It is okay if the home team loses, you just shake your head, brush it off and say, "Wait till next year". That's all the point of calling the Democrats "The Dems" it's acceptable if they are not respected or taken seriously, you just accept that they're going to lose.
Stop saying DOGE
Force them to say "department of government efficiency" to which the first thing to come to mind, should be they are not a department (and they certainly aren't efficient). It gives legitimacy to the unconstitutional unprecedented and illegal actions they take, and like DEI and Dems mentioned before, nobody can be mad at something with a cute nickname. They are Dismantling Our Government Entirely
Stop saying President Musk
Like Donald Trump, Elon Musk is a grifter, and nothing more. He is the richest man in the world, and he is going to have the audacity, to tell Americans, they are going to have to have “some pain.” Moreover, if Donald Trump wants to deport all these people, why not start with Elon Musk?
Stop saying Woke
It does not mean what you think it means, and it certainly does not mean all the negative things the Trumpers attribute to it. It certainly does not mean you are justified in hating someone because you think they are "woke."
Stop saying MAGA.
Make America Great again? It’s not patriotism, it’s a dog whistle. This is my country, land of my birth, but to Trump and his followers, making America great again, is returning to a time being free white and 21, was the only important demographic in America, which points back to why they think the elimination of DEI is so important. Further, again, we’ve given something horrible a quick nick name and normalized it. Don't.
Stop Accepting Pants on Fire lies.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, “There are lies, damn lies, and Pants on Fire lies.”
Republicans, in general, and Donald Trump in particular, tell bold face, obnoxious and unbelievable lies, that anyone paying attention knows are falsehoods, but the mainstream media challenges nothing.
- Do not let Trump keep saying he deported 238 Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador because they were “vicious and bloodthirsty criminals”.
- Stop letting Trump say that gasoline prices have dropped below $2 per gallon in many states. You buy gas every day, you know that to be a lie.
- Stop letting Trump claim an 87% drop in egg prices. You go to the store every day, if that were true, obviously someone forgot to tell your grocer. (And, by the way, he coined the term ‘groceries’)
- Trump alleged that millions of deceased individuals were still collecting Social Security benefits.
- He said that he had restored free speech in America by banning all government censorship. That is so ridiculous I think I can stop here.
What is, however, most frustrating is that with very few exceptions, no one in the media challenges his lies, no one asks a follow-up question, no one even says politely "could you explain that Mr. President?"
The real scandal is the acquiescence of the fourth estate.
Language shapes perception. And lately, the words we choose—often thoughtlessly—have allowed misinformation, manipulation, and outright lies to go unchecked. We have normalized the absurd. We have softened the dangerous. We have made it easy to look away.
... I'm just saying.
